   Cheap, Don’t Eat This, I’m surprised to see a warning that Onkyo HT-RC160 7.2-Channel could be a choking hazard to children under three. Apparently anything with a knob which can be pulled off requires a warning. Onkyo HT-RC160 7.2-Channel, This reminds me when I worked for a pharmaceutical company which made a suppository which was encased in foil blister packs. The warning … "Remove from foil pack before using."

   Cheap, Polk / Yamaha – Two Excellent Brands, Polk Audio HTS-9405 pairing of a good quality AV receiver and high quality speaker system was exactly what I had been looking for. Polk Audio HTS-9405 I had purchased a nice 1080p flat panel recently at one of the local stores, but not an audio system to go with it. The price is just slightly more than a few systems I saw at stores, but both Polk and Yamaha are well known brands. I was pleased with the package from the time I opened it. No need to rush out and buy anything else to go with it, it comes very complete. I had the system set up in no time. I found Yamaha’s automatic speaker set-up very helpful and it made a big difference in the sound. I’m now up and running and not only seeing HD pictures, but hearing HD sound as well. It’s hard to believe how much the sound adds to the picture, but it really does. I had one minor glitch with the HDMI hookup, but one call to Yamaha helped me find my error and fix it. I’m looking forward to lots of great movies now! I’d recommend this system to anyone who wants to enjoy the audio as much as the video. I don’t think anyone would be disappointed.

   Great item for budget home theater! Much better than others., Got this for a little more than $400. Works great. Easy installation. Many options for a cheap model. I bought the Sony system earlier, about $700 and had to return them. Very happy with the Onkyo. I play my 360 and PS3 on it and the sound is crystal clear and deep bass! Can notice all 7.1 channels! Make sure you use the optical sound. Highly recommended for this price range, probably up to the $600 or even $700.

Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Sub-Woofer – Black

    
   Great sound for the price, This system provides a great sound enhancement for the flat screen tv that generally has inadequate speakers on its own. Good bass tone and the mids and highs are greatly enhanced over my Samsung TV speakers. The system was easy to hook up as well. This is not a surround sound system – it isn’t advertised to be. It just provides a fuller sound experience without having to run wires around for a home theater system. A good buy for the price – I am extremely pleased with it.

Sony STR-DH800 7.1-Channel Audio Video Receiver (Black)

    
   Worth the wait!, Sony STR-DH800 wasn’t yet available when I started shopping for a new receiver a couple of months back. Even though the 700 was being heavily discounted at the time, the 800 had enough next-generation features (DTS-HD decoding, Dolby Digital + and a couple THX modes) to prompt me to hold off a while. And it was worth it. This is an incredible value for a mid-range receiver. After going through the manual, the setup (tuning it for a room) looked unbelievably complex. You had the ability to electronically position each speaker (forget balance controls!). Then, I found the section that explained what the little microphone was for. Wire everything up. Power it on. Put the mic where your ears will be and press the "go" button. Your system sounds like an Atari video game for about 20 seconds and you’re done. Remarkable.
